Professor Suprasanna Penna, Ph.D. in Genetics, is a Professor & the Director, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University of Maharashtra, Bhatan Mumbai 410206; formerly, Head of Nuclear Agriculture and Biotechnology Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, and currently a professor at the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. With over 35 years of research, he made significant contributions to plant science covering plant biotechnology, mutation breeding, stress tolerance and novel biopolymer. His work on technology development for radiation depolymerized oligo-chitosan has been successfully used in enhancing plant productivity in crop plants and vegetables. He has also contributed to molecular understanding of plant abiotic stress tolerance in crop plants and salinity-adaptive mechanisms in halophytes. He is on the editorial board of several national and international journals and published over 430 publications and has edited more than 24 books on salinity tolerance, genome editing and plant-metal interactions. He is the Guest Editor of special issues in Physiologia Plantarum, Current Plant Biology), Frontiers Plant Science and Physiology & Molecular Biology of Plants.Professor(Adjunct) Shri Mohan Jain is a Consultant and Plant Biotechnologist, Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland. Received M. Phil, 1973 and Ph.D., 1978, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Israel, USA, and visiting scientist/Professor in Japan, Malaysia, Germany, and Italy. He was a Technical Officer, Plant Breeding and Genetics, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, Austria, 1999-2005. He is a member of International Association of Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology; editorial Board member of Euphytica, In Vitro, Propagation of Ornamental Plants, Emirates J. Food and Agriculture, and a series on Forest Biotechnology. His publications are more than 225 in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings, and including 70 edited books; invited speaker and acted as a Chairperson in several international conferences worldwide. He was awarded Nobel Peace Prize, in commemoration the awarding to IAEA of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2005; also former consultant to IAEA, the European Union, The Government of Grenada, Iranian Private Company and the Egyptian Government. Currently his research interests are somatic embryogenesis, organogenesis, haploidy, somatic cell hybridization, somaclonal variation and mutagenesis mainly in medicinal plants, date palm, and banana genetic improvement, genetic diversity, erosion, conservation, and utilization in the context of climate change and food and nutritional security.Dr Sobhana (Shoba) Sivasankar has 20+ years’ experience leading and managing agricultural R&D programs. She is currently the Section Head for Plant Breeding and Genetics at the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Applications in Food and Agriculture at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria. Prior to this role, she was Director for two CGIAR Research Programs, on Dryland Cereals and on Grain Legumes, and successfully led the design and development of the merger of the two in the current GLDC program. Before this she led the development and coordination of the transgenic pipeline for agronomic traits from discovery research to early product development for DuPont Pioneer, now Corteva, in Iowa. During her career at DuPont Pioneer, she worked in the technical areas of stress physiology and silage digestibility and provided scientific leadership for the development of DuPont’s FASTcorn high-throughput phenotyping platform. Shoba has over 20 issued patents and 109 published patent applications, and several peer-reviewed publications.Prof. Chittaranjan Kole is an internationally reputed scientist with an illustrious professional career of spanning over thirty-eight years and original contributions in the fields of plant genomics, biotechnology and molecular breeding leading to the publication of more than 160 quality research articles and reviews. He has edited over 170 books for the leading publishers of the world including Springer, Wiley-Blackwell and Taylor and Francis Group. His scientific contributions and editing acumen have been appreciated by seven Nobel Laureates including Profs. Norman Borlaug, Arthur Kornberg, Werner Arber, Phillip Sharp, Günter Blobel, Lee Hartwell and Roger Kornberg. He has been honored with a number of Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships, and national and international awards including the Outstanding Crop Scientist award conferred by the International Crop Science Society. He has served at all prestigious positions in academia including as Vice-Chancellor BC Agricultural university, Project Coordinator of Indo-Russian Center of Biotechnology in India, and Director of Research of Institute of Nutraceutical Research of Clemson University, in USA. He worked also in the Pennsylvania State University and Clemson University as Visiting Professor in USA. He was awarded with the Raja Ramanna Fellow by the Department of Energy, Government of India. He is also heading the International Climate-Resilient Crop Genomics Consortium and International consortium for Phytomedomics and Nutriomics as their founding Principal Coordinator and presently as President.
