Alan Mitchell has worked as a craftsman and as a lecturer. Nature has always given meaning to his life, whether in the mountains or the garden. Being Editor of an RHS Journal enabled him to write about his obsession, Lilium. Poetry has always attracted him, because of the way it crystallises life’s experiences. Recently, he published a book of poems (Poems for Ruth). In his life he has loved and for that he is grateful. Suffering bereavement led him to write Notes on Loss, a book which recounts his faltering journey through the emotional desolation he endured following the death of his partner and to suggest that articulating our feelings might help us, and point the way for others to follow.
