Pádraig Carmody is Professor of Geography at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and a Senior Research Associate at University of Johannesburg (South Africa). His research centres on the political economy of globalization in Africa, and he has authored or co-authored eleven books and many journal articles. His most recent book is Transforming Education for Sustainable Development: Global Perspectives from Classroom to Practice, co-edited with Glenn Galloway, Karen Brown, Lucia Rodriguez and Larry Swatuk (2025). He is currently Chair of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the Royal Irish Academy. He is a former Chair of the Development Studies Association of Ireland, former editor-in-chief of Geoforum, former editor of Irish Geography, and former associate editor of Transnational Corporations. He also sits on the boards of Political Geography, Politics & Development in Contemporary Africa, Geoforum, Irish Studies in International Affairs, Journal of the Tanzanian Geographical Association, and Hungarian Journal of African Studies.
