My Theology

My Theology:The world’s leading Christian thinkers explain some of the principal tenets of their theological beliefs. In this powerful, poetic and insightful theological treatise based on her direct involvement with South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, of which her father was Chair, Mpho Tutu van Furth wrestles with the reality that the commission yielded much truth, an astonishing amount of forgiveness, but very little restitution and almost no reconciliation. She has found that around the world people are wanting to engage the conversation around reparation but often in ways that do nothing to upset established power dynamics. But reparation suggests the potential to heal, suggests Tutu van Furth, an like the transformative idea of forgiveness modelled by Jesus, can be understood as a spiritual practice.
