Beskrivning
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is one of the most common yet underrecognized neurological conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents. From falls, abusive head trauma, and sports-related concussions, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are increasingly called upon to assess, treat, and advocate for pediatric patients whose cognitive-communication, academic, and social functioning have been impacted by mTBI. Yet many clinicians receive limited formal training in this complex area of practice.Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Concussion in Infants, Children, and Adolescents: An Evidence-Based Clinical Guide provides the comprehensive, research-driven resource clinicians need to confidently serve this growing population. Written by renowned clinician, educator, and author Paul T. Fogle, this practical guide integrates current evidence with real-world clinical applications across the continuum of care. Covering infants through late adolescents, this book examines the identification, assessment, rehabilitation, and long-term outcomes of pediatric mild traumatic brain injury and concussion. Particular emphasis is placed on the SLP’s role in interdisciplinary care, return-to-learn planning, and family-centered intervention.Key FeaturesComprehensive coverage of pediatric mild traumatic brain injury and concussion from infancy through late adolescenceEvidence-based guidance for screening, assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment of cognitive-communication disordersPractical recommendations for school-based, medical, rehabilitation, and private practice settingsDedicated discussion of sports-related concussion, return-to-learn considerations, and persistent post-concussion symptomsAge-specific information addressing developmental differences in symptom presentation, recovery, and outcomesExtensive review of current clinical practice guidelines, cognitive rehabilitation approaches, and intervention frameworksCase studies and clinical examples that bridge research findings and everyday practiceWhether you are a school-based SLP supporting a student returning to the classroom, a medical SLP working with complex neurological cases, or a clinician seeking greater confidence in pediatric concussion management, this essential resource provides the knowledge and tools needed to improve outcomes for children, adolescents, and their families.
