Mary Ann Ottinger is Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland and the University of Houston, holding a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroendocrinology. Her research focuses on neuroendocrine function, comparative biology of aging, and the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Her studies in Japanese quail revealed conserved mechanisms in age-related endocrine decline and highlighted differences in oxidative damage resistance compared to long-lived birds. Her work in non-human primates explored calorie restriction's effects on aging, while studies in transgenic Alzheimer's disease mouse models showed the benefits of selective estrogen receptor modulators.
