Mauritius and African Human Rights Law

This book offers a comprehensive assessment of Mauritius's engagement with the African human rights system. Based on the premise that Mauritius has not fully leveraged this relationship, it first outlines the opportunities the system presents for promoting and protecting human rights within the country. It then examines the rationale, role, and effectiveness of regional human rights mechanisms in the Mauritian context. The book assesses the extent to which Mauritius has implemented African Union human rights treaties it has ratified, analyzing the country's constitutional, legal, and institutional frameworks, relevant jurisprudence, and its participation in the procedures of the African human rights system.Drawing on these insights, the book provides practical recommendations to strengthen Mauritius’s interaction with the African human rights system.
