Absalom Breaker and his Infernal partner, Seraf, work the drowned streets of New Venice as private 'problem solvers.' In a city rife with vice, grift, and magic, they manage to hold their own while hiding from their troubling pasts in plain sight. When the owner of one of the high-end pleasure palaces hires their agency, Unshriven, to find her missing Infernal employees, Breaker expects an easy case. Instead, he and Seraf must delve into the dark world of murdered mages, illegal Infernal fighting rings, and elemental summoners. As the bodies pile up and the clues lead them to a mystery over a decade old, Breaker and Seraf have no choice but to find the person behind the missing Infernals before their own well-guarded secrets are exposed.
