René Chartrand was born in Montreal and educated in Canada, the United States and the Bahamas. A senior curator with Canada's National Historic Sites for nearly three decades, he is now a freelance writer and historical consultant for cinema and historic sites restorations. He has written numerous articles and books including over 50 Osprey titles.Eugène Lelièpvre was an experienced painter of military subjects, specialising in the eighteenth century. In 1950 he was made the Official Painter to the French Army and he was also a fellow of the Company of Military Historians. He died in 2013.
