Thomas Maissen (PhD University of Basel, Switzerland) is a professor of modern history at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Among his many articles and books are the recent Die Geschichte der Schweiz, Baden 2010; Die Geburt der Republic. Fania Oz-Salzberger (PhD Oxford University, UK) is professor of history at the Faculty of Law and the Haifa Center for German and European Studies at the University of Haifa, Israel. She held the Leon Liberman Chair in Modern Israel Studies at Monash University, Australia and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Professorship for Distinguished Teaching at Princeton University, USA. Her books include Translating the Enlightenment: Scottish Civic Discourse in Eighteenth-Century Germany (1995), Israelis in Berlin (2001) and, co-authored with Amos Oz, Jews and Words (2012).
