Angry, outrageous, defiant, and courageous are some of the words that describe the American Abstract Expressionist artist Lee Krasner (1908-1984) - the subject of this very personal memoir inspired by Ruth Appelhof's 1974 summer with her in East Hampton, Long Island. Ruth Appelhof, Executive Director Emerita of Guild Hall in East Hampton, New York, earned her Ph.D. from Syracuse University having written her dissertation on American Modernism. Her museum career started at the Whitney Museum as a Helena Rubenstein Fellow. Since then she has directed museums across the country. In 2017 Appelhof was a visiting scholar at the American Academy in Rome and is currently a Fellow at the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center.
