Alex J. Armonda’s new book, A Lacanian Foundation for Critical Pedagogy, breathes fresh life into Paulo Freire’s classic corpus, inviting us to attend to the psychoanalytic inflections that have run throughout his thought from Pedagogy of the Oppressed to Pedagogy of Freedom. Armonda’s clear and masterful presentation of Jacques Lacan’s notoriously difficult discourse serves as an excellent introduction for students and practitioners alike while his inventive and astute readings of Freire avec Lacan serves as a theoretical delight for scholars and researchers. A Lacanian Foundation for Critical Pedagogy will be the standard bearer for psychoanalytic theorizing in education for years to come!”
