"From my perspective, this is a book all managers and professionals should be given the opportunity to read. It provides much of the fundamental background for understanding KM and the food for thought to feed the discussions that need to occure in order for knowledge management initiatives to succeed and flourish." Karen Takle Quinn, FaultLine "Kimiz Dalkir's Knowledge Management presents a nice overview of knowledge management. Both practitioners and educators should benefit from this informative source." -- Jay Liebowitz, Professor, Johns Hopkins University "An excellent addition to the body of KM literature. Comprehensive in scope. Integrates nicely theory, practice, history, issues, terminology, and a future perspective. A should read for those interested in leveraging knowledge assets to improve organizational productivity and innovation." -- Michael Stankosky, Lead Professor, Knowledge Management, The George Washington University "At Kent State University our graduate interdisciplinary program, Information & Knowledge Management (IAKM), is one of the best locations for teaching a course that will rely on this new and thought provoking journey through the field of KM. Dr. Dalkir has provided a rich foundation in the theory behind KM and draws in an engaging learner dialogue that demonstrates how theory can be practically engaged in the dynamic environments of KM-based institutions, businesses, and governments. Kim is an exemplary author who draws together numerous practical and theoretical frameworks. This book is the foundation for many highly motivated learners who wish to comprehend and apply the elements and theories that are required to construct and launch successful KM initiatives and organizations. This seminal monograph has augmented the goal of my research into the development of a Knowledge Management Educational Framework (KMEF) because it contains rich material with which I can effectively teach KM as well as fertile substance for my academic research agenda. I highly recommend this book because it will prove useful to academics as well as practitioners." -- Michael JD Sutton, Assistant Professor, Information Architecture and Knowledge Management Kent State University "Knowledge Management: Converting Theory to Practice is an important and highly valuable book that gives both theoretical and practical insights from broad multidisciplinary perspectives. Kimiz Dalkir displays a deep and eclectic understanding of knowledge and the business reasons and approaches to its management. The book's many references present opportunities for further exploration. Multiple illustrations from practices in wellknown organizations provide readers with great understanding. The book should be on every practitioner's bookshelf - and in their heads as well." -- Karl M. Wiig, Chairman, Knowledge Research Institute, Inc.
