JohnBetjeman (1906-1984) was Poet Laureate from 1972. In this1974 study, John Press attempts to survey the full range of Betjeman's workover forty years. Press argues that Betjeman's prose writings present, withmore force and coherence than is commonly recognized, a set of aesthetics andmoral judgements all the more valid for being flexible and undoctrinaire.
