Jeffrey Gibson: Paintings

Trained as a painter, Jeffrey Gibson has pursued a rich, interdisciplinary practice that draws from American, Indigenous, and queer histories, as well as popular music, literature, and art history. This sumptuously illustrated, large-scale monograph explores the breadth of his painting practice and chronicles the development of his vibrant geometric abstractions, which emerged from the artist’s research into historical color studies, psycho-prismatism, and astral projection. Published to coincide with an exhibition of Gibson’s work at Hauser & Wirth New York, 22nd Street, Jeffrey Gibson: Paintings pairs reproductions of these captivating, jeweltoned canvases with an illuminating essay as well as a companion text including Gibson’s own explanation of his process, illustrated by extensive studio documentation capturing his works at various stages of creation.
