Investigation of Site Characteristics and Evaluation of Radiation Risks to the Public and the Environment in Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations

This revised Safety Guide assists Member State regulatory authorities and nuclear installation operators to comply with the IAEA safety requirements for evaluating and characterizing potential nuclear installation sites. It is applicable to all nuclear installations and combines current guidance with updated Agency requirements and the latest techniques for radiological impact assessments. This revision includes lessons learned from experience at nuclear installations and provides recommendations for assessing environmental impacts using a graded approach, particularly through groundwater transport.
