This is not only one of the best textbooks out there for the subject matter, but also one of the best textbooks on any subject matter in the Humanities. I am truly impressed with this work. It is balanced and complete in its coverage. This is a truly impressive textbook. I start off every iteration of this introductory course by sharing with students that I don't generally deploy textbooks in my courses; however, I make an exception in this case since this is a text that does not simplify the material, yet renders the complex terrain readily understandable. A rare feat. It is by far the best discussion of the subject matter out there
