Beskrivning
Intravascular Imaging in Neurointervention: Neuro Optical Coherence Tomography Technology and Clinical Applications explores the groundbreaking application of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in neurointervention. As OCT expands from coronary to neurovascular imaging, novel dedicated technology has been developed to address the unique challenges of safely navigating and reliably imaging the intracranial vasculature. This book summarizes recent advances in high-resolution intravascular imaging for neurovascular disease and serves as a comprehensive resource for clinicians, researchers, and innovators in the field.

The book begins with an overview of the technological requirements and development of neuro OCT, followed by reviews of preclinical research and initial clinical experience. Subsequent chapters compare the innovative value of OCT with respect to other imaging modalities and explore its clinical applications for brain aneurysms, intracranial atherosclerotic disease, ischemic stroke, and other neurovascular diseases. Practical case studies illustrate real-world applications, while concluding chapters discuss future directions for clinical translation and automated image analysis, machine-learning enabled technologies.

Offering a comprehensive overview of the preclinical, translational, and clinical evidence available to date, Intravascular Imaging in Neurointervention: Neuro Optical Coherence Tomography Technology and Clinical Applications is an essential guide to the advances that have enabled neurovascular OCT imaging. This book is invaluable for medical professionals seeking to refine diagnostic capabilities and optimize therapeutic strategies for neurovascular diseases.

  • Explores the technological innovations enabling safe, reliable imaging of intracranial arteries

Mer information

Dr. Giovanni J Ughi is an engineer and researcher specializing in biomedical optics and medical imaging, with a primary focus on cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases and advanced endoscopic optical imaging techniques. He earned a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven, Belgium and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. His research has centered on the development and the clinical translation of novel intravascular imaging technologies, including multimodality coronary optical coherence tomography (OCT), next-generation miniaturized coronary OCT systems, dedicated high-resolution endoscopic imaging platforms for the human neurovasculature, and automated data analysis. Tommy Andersson MD, PhD, received his medical training at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and is qualified as a specialist in Neurological Surgery and Neuroradiology. He is retired from positions as Professor of Neurological Interventions at AZ Groeninge, Kortrijk, Belgium and Senior Consultant in Neurointervention at the Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Professor Andersson was the founder and Chairman of the Swedish National Quality Registry EVAS (EndoVAscular therapy for ischemic Stroke) for ten years, the former Chairman of the Swedish Society of Neuroradiology and the ESMINT Examination Committee, responsible for organizing and establishing the ESMINT Diploma Examinations. He is the Chief Medical Officer of Ceroflo Ltd. Professor Andersson is a pioneer in endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke patients, starting to regularly perform thrombectomies in 2004. He has been the PI for several international multicenter studies, an invited speaker at numerous international conferences, and authored many hundreds of peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Matthew J Gounis is a biomedical engineer and Professor of the Department of Radiology at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, where he also serves as the Vice Chair of Research. He co-founded the New England Center for Stroke Research at UMASS Chan in 2006, focusing on translating new imaging and medical device technology from the bench to the clinic. His research specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of neurological disease, device technology, nonclinical disease modeling, and image-guided surgery. Over the last decade, a prominent focus of his work has been intravascular imaging of devices designed to treat cerebrovascular disease. This work has been the focus of invited named lectures, including the Pierre Lasjaunias Grand Lecture at the 2019 WFITN congress. Dr. Gounis has received numerous accolades, including the Y.C. Fung Award from ASME, and has held leadership roles in several professional organizations. Dr. Vitor Mendes Pereira is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto and the Schroeder Chair in Advanced Neurovascular Interventions. He is a neurosurgeon specializing in minimally invasive endovascular treatments for cerebrovascular diseases, including stroke, brain aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations. He serves as Director of Endovascular Research and Innovation at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto, and leads the RADIS (Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Dynamic Flow, Advanced Imaging and Simulation) Laboratory. A pioneer in neurointerventional research, he performed the world’s first robotic neurovascular intervention and the first remote robotic mechanical thrombectomy on a patient located 200 km away. His research focuses on integrating robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced imaging to improve the safety and efficacy of neurovascular procedures. He is also actively involved in international education and training, organizing advanced courses and workshops worldwide.
