"First part of a long-term survey, this book clearly shows that doctoral studies in architecture have reached such a degree of maturity, that these interviews can be read as true contributions to an epistemology of architectural research. This is mandatory reading for doctoral students and academics who, at times, can lack confidence in the value of research in a complex field – architecture – at the crossroad of disciplinary and professional expectations regarding the most pressing issues of our contemporary world."- Jean-Pierre Chupin, Canada Research Chair in Architecture, Competitions and Mediations of Excellence, Université de Montréal, Canada"This volume offers a fascinating and long overdue insight into the origins and preoccupations of some of the major global centres of architectural research. These are the doctoral research programmes in architectural design and humanities that tend to set the agenda - and the standards - for everyone else to follow. This collection will provide a valuable resource for all architectural researchers looking to raise their game." -Jonathan Hale, Professor of Architectural Theory, Departmentof Architecture and Built Environment, University of Nottingham, UK"The interviews presented here explore the speculative range of PhD programs in Architecture, each an intellectual ecosystem for students, many of whom will become teachers. These insights into the role of scholarship, teaching, and learning about the built environment have never been more crucial." - Gray Read, Director of the Masters of Arts in Architecture program at Florida International University, U.S.A. "During epistemic changes in the nature of thought and in the status of truth, it is highly fitting to ask about the role and import of doctoral education for the discipline of architecture. More than ever, the profession invites a critical, yet integrated, review of its history, ambitions, and contested territories. To this end, InterVIEWS: Insights and Introspection on Doctoral Research in Architecture is a work of careful transcription that sets the stage for educating architectural educators of the twenty-first century with inspired teachings, polemics, and debate."- Franca Trubiano, Associate Professor, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A
