Aquaculture begins with seed, which is the foundation of every thriving hatchery and sustainable fish farm. This book takes readers into the heart of the modern science of hatchery management, exploring innovations, technologies and management practices that are revolutionizing fish seed production worldwide. Written for students, scientists, professors, industry professionals, and farmers, it blends cutting-edge research with practical know-how to provide a comprehensive guide to the future of hatchery management. Seed is the Cornerstone. Without high-quality seed, aquaculture cannot thrive. This book showcases innovations in shrimp hatcheries, prawn breeding, and ornamental fish seed strategies and explores breakthroughs in cryopreservation, bio-augmentation, and live feed culture that enhance efficiency while protecting ecosystems. From rainbow trout breeding to jellyfish aquaculture, the book captures innovations across continents, reflecting aquaculture’s diverse challenges and opportunities. Each chapter offers actionable insights — from hatchery design to nutritional strategies — making it indispensable for both academic study and hands-on farming. This book covers a wide spectrum of topics, including seed production of P. vannamei and M. rosenbergii, genetic improvement programs for freshwater prawns, breeding and seed production of snow trout, magur hatchery management, marine copepod production and its future prospects, diversification towards captive breeding of indigenous freshwater species Amblypharyngodon mola and Puntius sophore, large scale rotifer culture for nursery rearing, reproductive physiology of teleost fishes, pen culture in wetlands, innovative hatchery designs for the future, nutritional strategies for edible crabs and ornamental fish, endocrine disrupting chemicals and their impact on fish reproduction. Overall, the contents of this second volume is about building resilient, profitable, and environmentally responsible aquaculture systems. The future of the global aquaculture industry depends on the quality of its seed. Seed is the lifeblood of aquaculture, and hatchery management is its beating heart. In a world where demand for sustainable protein sources is surging, this book is an essential reading for policymakers, investors, academicians, and farmers who seek to understand and shape the technologies driving hatchery innovation worldwide, providing a blueprint for innovation, resilience, and global collaboration. Whether for policy, investing in aquaculture ventures, conducting research, or cultivating hatcheries, it equips one with the knowledge to lead in the next era of aquaculture. From shrimp hatchery operations in Asia to rainbow trout breeding across the globe, this book captures the diversity of seed production practices and their transformative potential. By bridging science, economics, and policy, it empowers decision-makers and practitioners to lead aquaculture into a sustainable future.
