Although inhalants and solvents aren't as widely covered by the media as other drugs, studies estimate that up to 25 percent of teens in the United States have tried them. In fact, an inhalant is sometimes the first drug young people try, and sniffing inhalants and solvents is so popular that only marijuana and alcohol are now used by more teens in the United States. Despite these facts, few young people believe inhaling these household substances for the drug-like effects is actually dangerous to their health.
