'B.M. Jain has written the definitive book on India's emergence and its implications for the Asian region and beyond. Jain, a distinguished and astute observer of India's foreign policy and domestic politics provides an objective, informative, concise and persuasive look at the new India, as well as compellingly outlines the challenges and opportunities it faces. Both students and scholars of India and Asia will find this deeply informed book to be an invaluable resource.' - Professor Shalendra D. Sharma, Department of Politics, University of San Francisco; 'It is now clear that economic, political and social power is gradually relocating from the West to the new growth poles of China and India. For anyone interested in understanding the challenges and opportunities that this represents, B.M. Jain's new book India in the New South Asia is indispensable reading. He forensically examines the global dynamics generating new regimes in South Asia, and new concepts and fresh paradigms of South Asian regionalism. Although pessimistic about the prospects for deeper regional integration in South Asia, he lays out a road map that will make that integration more likely. This is a book that needs to be read by academic and policy maker alike.' - Professor Kevin Clements, Foundation Chair of Peace and Conflict Studies and Director of the New Zealand Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Otago, New Zealand; 'This book offers detailed and illuminating insights into the numerous interdependent relationships between the region's major players, the degree of unpredictability inherent in these, and the scale of the problems faced by those interested in enhancing the stability of the region... well worth reading... I learnt a huge amount from this book' - Professor Anand Menon, University of Birmingham
