"In the Shadow of the Bomb" probes the theoretical constraints that underlie science policy questions, addresses past and developing themes in the arms control and national security debate, and discusses the underpinnings and morality of nuclear deterrence. It includes Drell's personal reminiscences of friends and colleagues, among them, Wolfgang K.H. Panofsky, T.D. Lee, and Victor F. Weisskopf. Several essays are devoted to Andrei Sakharov, with whom Drell enjoyed a close friendship. This work is intended for general science readers and those interested in arms control and nuclear deterrence.
