Icelandic Pop

Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen is Director of the Undergraduate Media and Communication Studies programme at the University of Iceland. A renowned music journalist, he is the author of three books on Icelandic music.

This is a wonderfully affectionate history of music-making in Iceland. Nothing here on hot springs or glaciers, but a rich and thoughtful account of what it means to be a popular musician in a very small, intense and playful country. - Simon Frith, Emeritus Professor of Music, University of EdinburghIcelandic Pop charts the musical changes of a small nation, from rock ’n roll to Laufey and everywhere in between. Thoroddsen is simply a stupendous storyteller, and shows without a doubt that Icelandic pop is so much more than just “meanderings about elves, quirkiness, lava and volcanos”. - Sarah Hill, Associate Professor of Popular Music and Tutorial Fellow of St Peter’s College, University of Oxford
