I Will Write Loudly So You Can Hear Me

I Will Write Loudly So You Can Hear Me is the poignant and bittersweet account of a little girl's memories of growing up as an only child with alcoholic parents.  The reader will often hear the child's voice in the moments she shares: her fears, her confusion, and those moments that remind her, and the reader, how glorious it can be to "just be a child."

Karyn M Bruce writes with emotional veracity, and her words are intimate, simple, and yet intense.  Each poem brings to light the narrator's small, challenging, and often scary world, growing up in the 1940s and 50s, when family secrets were kept, and even if the neighbor's heard or saw problems, they were not going to be involved.  The author tells the story of her loneliness, her heartbreak, and her painful realization that there was no one to help her.
