Bon appétit! — or so they say.Bo and Jin are ravenous. It has been a whole year since the last Hungry Ghost Festival, and they have been dreaming of the feast ever since. This year’s celebration promises overflowing tables of barbecue pork, dragon beard candy, and other beloved Chinese treats. They are ready to fill their bowls, go back for seconds, and maybe even thirds. But getting there is harder than expected. Wrong turns, unexpected obstacles, and moments of doubt threaten to slow them down, and Bo and Jin begin to wonder if they will arrive too late. As the journey unfolds, they discover that the true reward is not just the food waiting at the end, but what they learn by facing challenges together.Hungry Little Ghosts is a warm, joyful picture book that introduces young readers to the Hungry Ghost Festival while exploring perseverance, teamwork, and patience. With humor and heart, it encourages children ages 4–8 to slow down, stay curious, and navigate big feelings along the way.

Mer information

Jocelyn Wong-Trothen is the author of Hungry Little Ghosts, a children’s book writer, and a marketing professional whose storytelling roots began in journalism. She launched her career at the South China Morning Post and Time Out Hong Kong, where she covered culture, lifestyle, and breaking news. Raised in Hong Kong, a vibrant crossroads of East and West, Jocelyn draws inspiration from her multicultural family and heritage. She wrote her first children’s book during maternity leave as a joyful side project for her future children—then realized how meaningful it was to share those traditions with others. Today, she writes picture books that introduce young readers to traditional Chinese practices in warm, engaging, and accessible ways.Erin Hung is an illustrator, muralist, author, and mental health advocate whose work examines the intersections of identity, trauma, and healing. Growing up in post-colonial Hong Kong and later living in cities around the world shaped her belief in creativity as a powerful tool to foster connection and community. She collaborates with schools and nonprofit organizations to facilitate well-being through creative practice, alongside her work in publishing, editorial, and commercial industries. Her select clients include Chronicle Books, Lush Cosmetics, and UNHCR. Erin lives between Hong Kong and London and seeks out nature whenever she can.
