”… skilfully combines historical research, biblical ethics and contemporary analysis to prove that the gospel really is good news for all people!“Elizabeth McQuoid(Author and commissioning editor, Keswick Ministries)”… an engaging read and leaves you wanting more …“Richard Turnbull(Director, Centre for Enterprise, Markets and Ethics, Oxford)”… an encouragement to believers, and a challenge to unbelievers.“Peter Barnes(Pastor, Author, Lecturer, Revesby Presbyterian Church, Revesby, New South Wales, Australia)”I would commend this book to young people studying A level history as well as Christian teachers. It would also be a helpful read for anyone who wants to find out how the Bible,Christians and Christianity have impacted our world for the good. You will be greatly encouraged.“Naomi Oliver(Emmaus School, Trowbridge, UK )”In this brilliant book, Sharon James reclaims the ground and shows that nothing has done more for education, health, justice, the sanctity of life and dignity of women than this great Faith. A must–read ‘for such as time as this’.“Alun Ebenezer(Headmaster, Fulham Boys School)”… if you’ve been influenced to believe that the Christian gospel is a virulent intellectual infection that should be eradicated, that it robs people of joy and freedom, that it oppresses women and makes its heavenly–minded adherents of little earthly good, then you very much need to read this book.“Jon Bloom(President, Desiring God, Minneapolis, Minnesota)”Christianity is good news to the world, despite critics’ charges that it is oppressive and outmoded. Sharon James skilfully marshals Scripture, church history, and cultural analysis to set the record straight, showing the revolutionary impact of Jesus Christ on humanity. Buy five copies and give them to friends who care about the free exchange of ideas.“John Folmar(Senior Pastor, United Christian Church of Dubai)”This brilliant little book … beautifully demonstrates the way that all that we treasure in Western civilisation – such as human rights, equality under the law, democratic government, science, healthcare, education and literature – has its roots in a Christian worldview which values human beings as special creations made in the image of God who are called by God to demonstrate His justice, creativity and character. “Peter Saunders(Chief Executive, International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA))”This book is a splendid tonic for anyone who has become jaded by the anti–Christian bias which is so common today. Sharon James has given us an excellent introduction to the history of how the church and individual Christians have ‘gone about doing good’ over twenty centuries.“Evangelical Times
