Helen F. Siu is Professor of Anthropology at Yale University. She has conducted long-term field research in South China and Hong Kong. Her publications include Mao's Harvest: Voices of China's New Generation (co-editor Zelda Stern, 1983); Agents and Victims in South China: Accomplices in Rural Revolution (1989); Furrows: Peasants, Intellectuals and the State (1990); Down to Earth: The Territorial Bond in South China (co-editor David Faure, 1995); Empire at the Margins: Culture, Ethnicity and Frontier in Early Modern China (co-editors Pamela Kyle Crossley and Donald S.
