His subsequent DPhil was jointly funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Balliol's Peter Storey Scholarship. In 2014, he was elected to a Title A Fellowship at Trinity College, Cambridge.From 2015-17, Kirby will study to qualify as a barrister, funded by a Princess Royal Scholarship from the Inner Temple, though he remains (until 2018) a Fellow of Trinity and intends to maintain an active interest in modern British history alongside his legal studies.
