Higher Education Rankings and Their Worldwide Significance

Mustafa Kayyali, PhD, is an ardent advocate for excellence in higher education, driven by arelentless pursuit of quality, recognition, and innovation. As the Manager of Quality Assurance andAccreditation Directorate at Maaref University of Applied Sciences, Syria, he leads initiatives thatplay a crucial role in shaping the landscape of academia. Having earned a master’s in qualitymanagement and evaluation in higher education from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain,followed by a PhD in Quality Management from Azteca University, Mexico, his academic pursuitshave laid a strong foundation for his expertise in accreditation, quality assurance, and highereducation rankings. Dr. Kayyali has made substantial contributions to academic literature, havingedited and authored books and published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and 40 bookchapters. Additionally, he takes pride in his role as a translator, having translated five books, thusbridging language gaps and promoting knowledge exchange on a global scale. He is privileged tobe a part of the British Accreditation Council’s Accreditation Committee, the Slovenian QualityAssurance Agency as an international expert, and the Agency for Control and Quality Assurance ofHigher Education AKOKVO as an accreditation expert. His international engagements also includebeing an expert for the Kosovo Accreditation Agency and the European Council for BusinessEducation, as well as serving as a lead auditor at the Centre of Assessments for Excellence. Dr.Kayyali has also submitted a patent to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on rankings,titled “Holistic and Multidimensional Ranking Methodology for Universities.” As an entrepreneur,researcher, translator, and publisher, Dr. Kayyali is deeply involved in various facets of the academicworld. His diverse interests encompass management, translation, interpretation, and academicconsulting, contributing to a well-rounded understanding of the industry.
