Hey, Ike

Ike Quirk is a farmer, based in Ireland, and owner of i.q.wind. He is a member of the Irish Solar Energy Association. He is also a practising artist, with a strong focus on expressionism and the impact of the natural environment on humanity. His work has been exhibited in Berlin, Madrid and Paris.

Ike Quirk’s paintings begin with a sentence – a few words from a stranger, a daughter, or someone met briefly on a journey – and then surrender to tea, gesso, acrylic, and gravity. Between abstraction and writing, he has found a rare equilibrium: the surface is at once an archive of emotion and a testimony of matter. This book does more than document an artist’s practice; it proposes a theory of how painting might be born from encounter. Quirk shows us that within the most abstract image lives the most particular person.Joshua Gong, author of Zhang Enli: Space PaintingIke Quirk transforms human encounter into paint. Vulnerable, instinctive and materially alive, his work holds onto the words and traces we leave in one another. Hey, Ike captures an artist coming fully into his language, revealing the messy, beautiful human connections from which that language is made.Amy Jackson, artist & curator
