"This book is a great 'how-to' for anyone considering a global move. Katia Vlachos highlights the need for leaders to pay as much attention to planning for potential lifestyle, support system, and cultural changes as they do for taking the new role. Neglecting to do this can lead to unhappiness and frustration in the initial stages of the move, potential underperformance, and, in extreme cases, even failure in the new job." --Alan Watts, president, Asia-Pacific, Hilton "An amazingly complete book that looks at the needs of adults as well as children in any global move. It includes thoughtful advice wise movers must consider in order to maintain emotional and physical balance during this time. A Great Move is replete with solid, practical suggestions for what all members of the family can do to not only move well, but also thrive in the new place. For all those planning to move, this book is invaluable." --Ruth E. Van Reken, co-author of Third Culture Kids: Growing Up Among Worlds "A Great Move is everything you need to make a successful expatriate assignment. With all the bases covered, Katia superbly captures the fundamental thoughts, emotions and drivers crucial in deciding to leave the comfort of your home (or country), enjoying the assignment adventure, all while achieving your personal and professional goals." --Paul Kelly, global relocation & integration program manager, Intel Corporation "Finally, a book about moving abroad that addresses the social, emotional and psychological, along with the physical, practical and career considerations! A Great Move covers all the bases, outlining the five areas that truly matter and demand your attention as you move through the stages of deciding, preparing, moving and settling in a different country or culture. The balance between information, empathy and guidance is perfect, with stories of actual expat experiences woven throughout, along with snapshot assessments, chapter checklists and common mistakes. This book will help you create the conditions for having the challenging, yet compulsory caring conversations, connection and clarity needed when considering an international move, and the tools to help make the ensuing transitions shorter, softer and steadier." --Linda Janssen, author of The Emotionally Resilient Expat: Engage, Adapt and Thrive Across Cultures "The stories she shares of expat couples and families illustrate most eloquently the real pressures expats face, especially the spouses who often have to cope with culture shock and child care on their own." --Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite "Get A Great Move if there's a big move coming soon -- or find it even if there are no plans to pull up stakes. This great and helpful guide just might inspire a life-changing adventure." --Reviewed by Greg Rideout for IndieReader "I really enjoyed reading this book because it was extremely thorough in its content. At the end of each chapter, the reader is given a checklist of questions to answer. I found these questions to be very helpful. It also has a big checklist at the end of the book that I think anyone who is moving should use. The book has a very organized feel to it and Vlachos includes several resources in the back of the book. A Great Move is the Little Black Book when it comes to becoming an expat." --Reviewed by Kristi Elizabeth for San Francisco Book Review "A Great Move is the perfect guide for anyone who is thinking about moving to another country. Author Katia Vlachos does a fantastic job of breaking down each step of moving, including the emotional aspects. She also shares with the reader the mistakes that other expats have made. I found the real-life stories to be quite interesting." --Manhattan Book Review
