A patriotic encyclopedia of the runners-up (aka losers) who have made Britain great. With vintage losers, such as Caractacus, who lost to the Romans, to more recent examples, such as Eddie the Eagle and Lewis Hamilton. Also acknowledges previously ignored examples of inadequacy, like the Shakespearian actor Robert Coates, who, in 1816, was so bad in Rowe's death-filled tragedy "The Fair Penitent" that several members of the audience injured themselves laughing.
