Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) is one of the major social and political theorists of the 20th century whose work has had an enormous influence on several fields, including educational theory and practice. Carmel Borg is senior lecturer and head of the Department of Primary Education at the University of Malta. Joseph Buttigieg is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Literature and a fellow of the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Peter Mayo is associate professor in sociology of education and adult education at the University of Malta.
