He retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force Reserve.His academic interests are in the integration of medical and psychiatric illness, psychopharmacology, medical education, models of service delivery in psychosomatic medicine, and neuropsychiatry.He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a Fellow of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and the American Psychiatric Association, and a member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. He serves on the Editorial Boards of American Psychiatric Publishing and Academic Psychiatry.
