Gathering Storm

China is winning a war most Americans don't know they're fighting. While Washington wrangles over climate policy, Beijing has seized control of the clean energy industries that will power the 21st century—and the critical minerals needed for every solar panel and every F-35 and Tomahawk missile. For Beijing, this is not environmentalism; it's geopolitics.Gathering Storm makes the case—grounded in national security, economic self-interest, and hard data—that America's retreat from this contest is a strategic blunder. Back home, billion-dollar weather disasters have more than doubled in recent years, insurance companies are fleeing high-risk markets, and working Americans who did everything right are finding themselves unprotected. Extreme weather is already hammering farm country, small towns, and Republican-leaning states hardest. Nine of the ten states facing the worst climate impacts lean red. Some American leaders say 'relax, it's not happening,' while China is investing massively in diverting water to arid zones, building seawalls, stockpiling food, and flood-proofing cities. Beijing is taking control of world energy supply and preparing its society for a climate-disrupted world—and framing it explicitly as national security strategy. This is a book for Americans who put country before politics, conservatives as well as liberals. The contest is not over. But the clock is ticking.
