Bridgett names what audio direction actually is: a shapeshifting role that demands you let go of the very craftwork that got you there. This book gives you the frameworks and lenses you can use on Monday morning. Whether you've directed for years or are stepping in for the first time, you'll find something you can actually use.Rodrigo Rubilar, Audio Director, Reflector Entertainment (Bandai Namco)To navigate the uncertain waters of audio direction can be a daunting task. Every journey is uncharted, and most of the time you can’t discern the final destination until you are well into the voyage.Through this book, Rob Bridgett equips us with a compass, a spyglass and real-world knowledge to confidently take the ship’s wheel and steer it in the right direction.Whether you’re aspiring to become an Audio Director, taking your first steps into the role, or a seasoned veteran with several AAA titles under your belt, The Audio Director’s Guide offers valuable insights, practical advice, and philosophical perspectives. It is a tool you’ll want to return to again and again throughout your journey.Eduardo Vaisman, Audio Director, Ubisoft Toronto (Far Cry, Splinter Cell)Addressing the question of what it fundamentally means to be an Audio Director, and gently reframing how the role can be understood both at the studio level and as a personal journey, is where this book truly carries its weight. Drawing from his experience as a high-level studio director, Rob takes the reader on a thoughtful journey through different stages of production, from building teams to high-level Atmos listening, among many other detailed aspects of game audio. He even offers a clearly outlined step-by-step approach to resetting when things start to feel overwhelming. Highly recommended reading for anyone working in audio who wants to better understand the role—and just as importantly, for studio executives, production staff, and fellow directors. Paul Williams, Audio Director at NBCUniversal
