Future of Education in the Global South

This book considers how to expand educational horizons in the Global South, based on global solidarity and an open exchange of knowledge.Drawing on expertise from UNESCO Chairs from the Global South, the book aims to bridge divides and inspire collective action towards a more harmonious and equitable world in the face of new vulnerabilities and asymmetries. In an era marked by stark polarization and looming threats of a global polycrisis, this book advocates for advancing hopeful futures through global dialogue, exchange, and collaboration born out of mutual respect and diverse perspectives. The UNESCO Chairs program was established to build university networks and encourage inter-university cooperation across borders. This book brings together leading UNESCO Chairs to reflect on a range of pressing concerns relating to democracy, educational justice, transformation, development, peace, inclusion and equity in and through global Education. In doing so, the authors situate local, regional, and global debates within their good practices, interests, differences, and commonalities.Transcending disciplinary, ideological and geographic boundaries, this book will be an important read for researchers working on education and global development, as well as for NGOs, multilaterals, UNESCO members, and policy makers.
