Originally published under the title The Future of Economic History, this book attempts to chart a new course for the intellectual discipline known as economic history and determine its contributions to the study of economics. The authors suggest new and potentially fruitful areas and approaches for research and at the same time analyze the weaknesses in past efforts to chart a course for them.
Alexander J. Field is Michel and Mary Orradre Professor of Economics and Associate Dean of the Leavey School of Business and Administration at Santa Clara University. His more than 30 publications have appeared in such journals as The American Economic Review, Journal of Economic History, Explorations in Economic History, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Technology and Culture, and Journal of Human Resources.
