Serge Perez holds a doctorate in sciences from the University of Grenoble, France. He has had international research exposure through several academic and industry positions in laboratories in the US, Canada, and France (Centre de Recherches sur les Macromolecules Végétales, CNRS, Grenoble, as the chairperson and as director of research at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility). His research interests span the whole area of structural glycoscience, emphasizing polysaccharides, glycoconjugates, and protein–carbohydrate interactions. This encompasses computational chemistry and molecular modeling, crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, and the relationships between structure and function. He has extensive experience in evaluating research infrastructures and a strong interest in the economy of glycoscience and e-learning, as demonstrated through his work with Glycopedia (https://glycopedia.eu/). He serves on several editorial boards and has authored more than 340 research publications which have been widely cited and referenced. He has also edited and written several books on bioeconomy.
