"This compelling, multi-layered collection o fessays will attracth both sophisticated and beginning education feminists and theorists. The authos, in a rich stew of approaches and styles, honor and critique leading progressive male thinkers who continue to influence educational thought. These dialogues showcase and name feminism's central and complex position in current social thought." -- Sari Knopp Biklen, Professor of Cultural Foundations of Education, Syracuse University"Kathleen Weiler should be applauded for assembling this volume of essays by leading feminist educational theorists. They have taken on the challenging and contradictory task of engaging critically with influential male theorists in order to re-vision a feminist educational discourse free of patriarchal assumptions. The complex readings and re-readings presented in this collection fill a void in educational studies scholarship." -- Wendy Kohli, President of the American Educational Studies Association and Directore of Teacher Education, The New School"These essays raise provocative questions about feminist perspectives might reshape educational theory. As captured by the book's subtitle, the relationship between the essay's authors and the theorists about whom they write is one source of resistance, revision, and new insight." -- Cultural Critique
