Nicholas Southwood is Professor in the School of Philosophy at the Australian National University and founding Co-Editor of Political Philosophy. He works mainly in moral, social, and political philosophy. He is author of two previous books, Contractualism and the Foundations of Morality (OUP, 2010) and Explaining Norms (OUP, 2013), and many articles that have appeared in journals including Ethics, Philosophy and Public Affairs, Mind, and Noûs. His awards include a Fulbright Scholarship, an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship, and the GRIPP Montreal Political Theory Manuscript Award (for the manuscript of the current book).
