Farm Animal Management

Livestock farming has been an essential component of Indias socio-economic framework for many years. As a crucial element of the agricultural sector, it plays a multifaceted role in achieving nutritional security, generating employment opportunities, and promoting socio-economic development, particularly for landless, small, and marginal farmers, as well as women. India has a vast livestock population with varying production capacities that are distributed throughout the countrys different agro-ecological zones and livestock holding sizes. Consequently, different management practices are necessary for this diverse population. Moreover, the sector faces numerous challenges due to changes in development drivers and climate change. Livestock management involves the precise and integrated application of fundamental scientific principles of breeding, feeding, housing, and weeding, particularly in emergency situations. This book aims to provide a comprehensive overview of all these basic and applied aspects of livestock management, taking into account the recent reorganization of the syllabus for veterinary science and animal husbandry programs. The book is divided into fifteen chapters, covering nearly every aspect of livestock production management.
