Beskrivning
The Evolution of Sport and Exercise Psychology: Historical and Global Perspectives brings together global experts in the first compilation tracing the field's evolution as an interdisciplinary area of research and practice. Each chapter examines historical roots through contemporary perspectives and offers future directions. The book comprises three sections signifying the field's evolution and diversification. Section one covers 'core' topics focused on the person: emotion, motivation, individual development, cognition, personality, and psychophysiology. Section two widens the lens to interpersonal and contextual aspects: group dynamics, organisational sport psychology, familial involvement, and practitioner-client interactions. The final section considers the field within larger academic and global society, focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion, the intersection of physical activity and mental health, and professional practice evolution. The intended audience is anybody interested in sport and exercise psychology. Students and early career researchers/professionals will benefit most as they develop an understanding of where the field has evolved from and future directions to explore.

Recensioner i media

'This book is a breath of fresh air in the field in several ways: First of all, it shows the research and work done in other countries and continents alongside the USA. That in itself widens our perspective. The content of the book includes a variety of new topics with a multidisciplinary perspective that integrates theory and practice. A welcome step forward for sport and exercise psychology!'Gloria Balague, PhD, clinical associate professor emerita, University of Illinois at Chicago, past-president APA Division 47/Catalan Association of Sport Psychology'This book provides not only an excellent overview of the rich history of sport and exercise psychology, but also guides readers toward a good understanding of the current status and possible future of this relatively young discipline.'Paul Wylleman, Professor of Sport Psychology at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and past-president of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC)
