In this groundbreaking piece of scholarship, Kaunert accomplishes precisely what he sets out to do by providing a comprehensive account of EU initiatives in its Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice, exploring these developments from a valuable theoretical perspective, and providing lessons for practitioners. Written by one of the true experts in the field and informed by over one hundred interviews with policy-makers, this book fills a void in the literature on European internal security and contributes much to our theoretical understanding of European integration. There is no other book like it.'
