It seems that with Donald Trump’s second term, a new era has begun in relations between the United States and Europe – an era that requires Europeans to redefine what it means to be American in many senses – political, economic, cultural, and literary. We must take a fresh, careful look at what the canon of American literature and art actually is, as well as at American values – democracy and individualism – which for many decades have been a guarantee of the European world’s stability.
