Scott Spoolman is an experienced writer in the field of educational publishing, with more than 30 years of expertise. Between 2003 and 2018, he worked with Tyler Miller as a co-author on editions of LIVING IN THE ENVIRONMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE and SUSTAINING THE EARTH. With Norman Myers, he co-authored ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS: A MODULAR APPROACH. Spoolman has authored numerous books and articles in the fields of environmental science, geology and natural history, politics and business. Additionally, he has served as a consulting editor, contributing to the development of over 70 college and high school textbooks in the natural and social sciences. Danielle M. Andrews-Brown, Ph.D., is an associate professor and interim chair of the Department of Agriculture at Virginia State University. A soil scientist by training, she earned her doctorate from Penn State and later served there as a post-doctoral scholar and research associate. Her research spans over 15 years and focuses on improving water and soil quality, with emphasis on carbon, nitrogen and emerging contaminants. Andrews-Brown has worked at nationally recognized sites such as the Savannah River Site, the Susquehanna Shale Hill Critical Zone Observatory and The Living Filter. Before joining VSU, she was the program lead as Environmental Studies and served as assistant dean at the University of Pittsburgh. An advocate for education, Dr. Andrews-Brown has spent two decades teaching and mentoring students from middle school to graduate levels, both in the classroom and online.
