Environmental Law in Arab States

Damilola S. Olawuyi, SAN, FCIArb. is an associate professor of energy and environmental law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) College of Law, Doha, Qatar. He is also Chancellor's Fellow and Director of the Institute for Oil, Gas, Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (OGEES Institute), Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria. Professor Olawuyi holds a doctorate in energy and environmental law from the University of Oxford; a master of laws (LL.M.) from Harvard University; and another LL.M. from the University of Calgary. He is an Independent Expert of the African Union's Working Group on Extractive Industries, Environment, and Human Rights Violations in Africa; Vice Chair of the International Law Association; and Chair of the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in Middle East and North African Universities (ASSELLMU).

This book is a welcome addition to a growing body of environmental law literature focusing on specific geographic regions. It provides a rare glimpse into a region where not many have information on. It also advances debates about environmental law, a fast-developing field on which there has been dearth of resources.
