Beskrivning
This book explores the nature of England’s housing crisis in the early 2020s, with the aim to provoke and stimulate conversations among stakeholders about how housing in England can be viewed through the lenses of crisis theory, wicked problem theory, and leadership. The book demonstrates that a lack of political will and a fixed ideology of homeownership has created an environment in which current thinking about housing has become entrenched; the same solutions are recycled, and innovation is stifled. The book explores the legislative record and explains why recent policies and reports have had limited impact on the housing problem. Leadership in the housing system is considered in depth, and local and international exemplars provide case studies demonstrating what good provision of housing can look like. The final chapters of the book provide a management framework for change in the form of a proposal for a National Forum for Housing and an associated academy for developing system leaders in housing. This book will be of interest to policymakers, academics, politicians at both central and local levels, town and country planners, students of social policy and housing, and people in the housing, construction, and development industries.

Recensioner i media

‘In the last forty years the UK has had 33 government ministers responsible for housing, and yet we are still, apparently, in "a housing crisis”. Guelbert skilfully documents how and why we find ourselves in this position and challenges the idea that this “crisis” can be fixed with yet another emergency sticking plaster. We need to go back to the beginning, rethink the very nature of the problem, and work out how we might better ameliorate it. This book should be compulsory reading for anyone involved in UK housing - including government ministers.’Keith Grint, Emeritus Professor, Warwick Business School.
