Energy in the Middle East

The Middle East is home to some of the world’s leading oil and gas producers, many of whom have leveraged hydrocarbon production to develop comprehensive, integrated energy value chains that extend beyond petroleum products and, in many cases, beyond domestic borders. Having fully embraced the energy transition, including the challenges and opportunities that it brings, the Middle East has firmly established itself as a leading global energy hub. Middle Eastern players are responsible for some of the largest, most innovative projects, transactions and developments across the sector. The region and the energy sector itself continue to evolve rapidly, with the pace and complexity of change across the entire energy value chain demanding a fresh view. This seminal publication delivers that view from a different, more holistic perspective. It provides a comprehensive overview of the commercial, legal and policy dynamics reshaping what is arguably the world’s most consequential energy region. Energy and the Middle East: From Black Gold to Green Horizons brings together specialists from Gibson Dunn’s market-leading global energy practice, combining international ‘on-the-ground’ expertise to deliver an authoritative commentary on the sector’s most cutting-edge developments, issues and trends. Key topics examined include: a comparative analysis of upstream exploration and production contracting models across the region; the growth of outbound international oil and gas M&A across the region; energy financing trends across the region, including the increased prevalence of oil and gas capital markets transactions; the role of private capital in facilitating the energy transition; the potential for low‑carbon hydrogen to usher in a new age of Middle Eastern energy export; how Artificial intelligence is being used to power innovation across the entire energy value chain; how ESG considerations are shaping the sector; and key issues in energy- and energy transition-related disputes. For those who work in the energy sector, and those who do not, this commercially focused title offers a unique, practical guide to today’s Middle Eastern energy landscape, and the key drivers and dynamics behind it, while providing clear insight into what the next wave of the energy transition will bring.
